Securing The Dream of Having Children In The Future

Also known as oocyte cryopreservation, egg freezing is a process where a woman’s mature eggs are harvested, retrieved, frozen and stored for future use. When she is ready to start a family, her frozen eggs will be thawed, fertilised and transferred into her uterus through IVF.

The procedure involves 8 to 10 days of injections to stimulate the growth of eggs. After which, eggs will be retrieved, cultured, frozen and stored.

Preserving Reproductive Potential
With fertility declining with age and good quality eggs important to conceive a child, egg freezing can help women preserve their fertility beyond their fertile years.

Egg Freezing is recommended:

  • Want to postpone pregnancy to later age.
  • Cancer patients who need to undergo chemotherapy and want to secure their dream of having children.

It can be kept frozen indefinitely immersed and stored in a tank containing liquid nitrogen. Most centers have guidelines in place for the duration for storage.
Studies has shown that there is no increased rate of birth defects when compared to the general population or no increased rates of chromosomal defects between embryos derived from frozen eggs compared to embryos derived from fresh eggs.
The egg freezing process begins with a fertility assessment and doctor consultation. Once you decide to freeze your eggs, you’ll have an appointment to ensure you know how to administer your medication and that you understand the process and your cycle schedule. From the stimulation to egg retrieval it takes about 10 to 14 days.
